What should I call this? Ah, BTS part two, inspiration!

I guess I fell asleep on the couch. Woke up, feeling great. Thought it was five or six AM. Was still in my jeans and flannel. Still wearing my glasses and snuggling my sloths. So imagine my surprise when I grabbed my phone. It indicated MIDNIGHT! No freakin’ way. I checked it again. Blatantly it shouted, “Hey stupid, yes, it’s STILL midnight. What did you expect?” Hmm, I wasn’t in the mood to argue, so…

Thus, here I am, talking to you, looking out the window, waiting for the snow. At least I’m ready for that. Speaking of that, I’m writing a new song. That’s something I haven’t done in years. And yes, it’s snow related. An ethereal snow. One that takes your breath away. One that makes you think of past days that made you go, ahhhhh!

Warning, this blog is probably going to wander all over the face of the Earth, because I can’t turn off my brain. But you know what, that’s okay, because I’m feeling so many emotions and mulling over numerous ideas. In other words, feeling inspired. Where did this all begin?

If you’ve been following my blog, then you are familiar with “Honesty is the best policy…” I popped (or should I say, K-Popped) out of the closet and admitted how much I loved BTS. And here I am fifteen months after that all too fateful encounter with seven Korean men, admitting once again, how they changed my life. Now I’m here to tell you how they continue to inspire me. Here’s what’s been happening in the interim…

I’ve actually picked up my guitar, painful as it may be. Painful you ask? Yes. Try playing after many years of inactivity and ask the tips of your fingers, how the hell they feel. No calluses. So I had to build them up slowly. I kept at it, even though those fingers protested and howled. Damn, who knew music could hurt so bad? Well, several weeks later, I actually earned those calluses, and can play for more than a few minutes without sobbing.

But wait, there’s more.

I went online and purchased an Ampeg practice amp for my bass. Talk about ambition. I’m warming up my fingers on my six-string Gibson J-45 acoustic, cuz let me tell you, guitar strings got nothin’ on bass strings. Baby steps.

And this brings me full circle (if you’re lost, see paragraph two). Yes, I’m writing again. The last time I did that was when I was in a band with Jordy, and Lisa. Back in the days of Tubes of Fear. How did we come up with that name? Ha, you’ll have to come back another day before I spill the beans. So there!

One thing, one thing, leads to another (sung to the tune by the Fixx).

Since I’m writing, how am I going to record what I’m doing? That happens you know. You begin writing a song, then days later you pick up your guitar and… Now how the hell did that melody go? A phone app only goes so far. So, I went back online, and skimmed through all the latest gadgets, and now I’m the proud owner of a Tascam DP-03SD 8-Track Digital Portastudio Multi-Track Audio Recorder. Expecting arrival on Monday morning. I’m excited.

I had a Tascam when I lived in Detroit. It was a great little machine. But this one will be ten times better. Hey, it’s the digital age with all the bells and whistles. And I deserve it!

So, yesterday I got to thinking, how about asking my Twitter friend if she’ll put cello to my new song. Can’t hurt to ask. She said she’d love to assist. So when it’s complete I’ll send her an mp3 and see what she thinks. Won’t it be fun to collaborate long distance? Oh, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

I met Shelly7: Honey Farmer a few weeks ago. I saw her/heard her play cello as an accompaniment to Winter Bear by V (yes a member of BTS). I was impressed, and that is how the friendship transpired.

I am not only writing and playing again, but I’ve acquired a completely new circle of friends who share my love of those same musicians. And speaking about my muse, here’s their latest song, Black Swan, from a soon-to-be released CD, in February. They’ve outdone themselves once again, proving that they’re more than just a K-POP band. Thank you Jessica. Thank you Kai-Ann. Thank you Shelly! Thank you BTS. Let the inspiration soar!
