Tonight as I sit and write the final chapters of my book, Discovering BTS, I have much to reflect upon. I chose to share the beginning paragraphs of the chapter, Covid Rears its Head.
“It’s often said that every dark cloud has a silver lining, and this also held true for Covid. While a vast storm brewed, thundering down upon every corner of the earth, still there were good moments that helped carry us through the darkest of times. For me, part of that sun that persisted was the respite I found in BTS.
Yoongi, also touched upon this in 2021, commenting that if it weren’t for Covid, he most likely would never have written Daechwita. I understood what he meant. Most of his followers understood his comments, yet some chose to take his words out of context and accused him of being unfeeling while thousands of people suffered and died due to the virus. But his words touched my soul because despite of the situation, he and I could still glean some positivity out of a world spinning out of control. As with any tragedy, you can either let it eat you alive, or take the dragon by the tail and make the best of it. Instead of lamenting his time in isolation, he was inspired to write. I’m positive the song would not have been written if not for COVID. Just as certain novels, songs or paintings would have never been shared with the world if not for sorrowful conditions. Love as well as tragedy bring great things to fruition.”
