Why I’m turned off by Facebook Birthday Fundraisers
If you’re a Facebook user, then no doubt you have seen similar posts on numerous occasions. The first time I saw one, I was okay with it. The second and third times? Non-committal. However, each time I see one now, it agitates me. Is this supposed to make everyone feel obligated and guilty?
“Instead of giving me a gift, please donate to such and such…”
Now wait a minute, when did I start giving you gifts?
There are only a handful of people who receive gifts from me on their birthdays. My son and daughter, my husband, my granddaughter, and a couple of special friends. That’s it. So, am I supposed to give gifts to everyone now? Sorry, but it irritates me to no end.
There’s a time and place for philanthropy, and this is is not one of them. Another FB annoyance. I choose a few wonderful charities each year and stick with that list. Let’s face it, unless you are in the one percent, you can’t feasibly support every charity in the world.
People (and I’m one of them), will tire of seeing these, just like they do with similar requests on FB.
“Good morning! Please forward this post to everyone you know…”
I don’t know about you, but I’m scrolling…
