An acknowledgment to Dr Michio Kaku
Special thanks to Dr Michio Kaku — For after reading your book, Physics of the Impossible, I realized that I was writing a “Class II impossibility” children’s book, and that Rachael, Jenny, and Melanie, exist in a “Type III civilization.” So, here’s to Alice Through the Looking Glass, the ‘Q’, and wormholes — my universe keeps expanding!
The above paragraph is from the acknowledgment section of book two of my trilogy, The Story of Q, Misha Goes Missing. If you aren’t familiar with my series, it begins with ten-year old Rachael purchasing a decorative letter Q, at a neighborhood garage sale. However, as she soon discovers, the innocuous object turns out to be a portal into another world.
As I was writing Misha Goes Missing, I also happened to be reading, Dr Kaku’s book, about the exploration of the world of science fiction. Coincidence? I think not. haha! And after completing the hardcover, I couldn’t resist analyzing my own book, to see where it would fit into his theories.
His book looks at the world of science fiction, exploring the fundamentals and the limitations of the world of phasers, force fields, teleportation and time travel, and ranks the technologies into three categories, depending on a civilization’s developments. Is it something feasible, and if so, might it be achieved within the next century or millenia? Or is it something impossible, with no chance of ever occurring? It’s a fascinating book that explores and connects the worlds of science and sci-fi.
Now you’ll have to read both our books.
