Crowdstrike Crash!

Luckily, we weren’t affected by the global crash, but millions of companies world-wide were including airlines, banks and even fast-food restaurants.

This was NOT a cyber-attack but caused by a software update via the cyber security company, Crowdstrike, that affected Microsoft computers around the globe.

Yesterday, many businesses were forced to go back to using pencil and paper, while scrambling to take care of their customers. This and other recent events are causing people to ask the question, “Is it wise to put all your eggs in one basket?” While being interconnected is certainly advantageous, relying on a particular system has major drawbacks – when something goes wrong it can instantly take down systems around the world.

And I can guarantee there will be other such incidents in the near future caused by software glitches, cyber-attacks, major solar flares, and satellite collisions/space debris. Are we prepared for what’s next? No! But what can we do to alleviate potential disasters? Maybe it’s time to rethink our reliance on connectivity!
