Ed Sheeran and the copyright trial
After my last post about the Heisenberg Principle (the world of physics), I decided to post something lighter and more relatable. 🙂
I realize that this is old news by now, but due to us being bombarded daily on so many fronts, maybe it was something you weren’t aware of. In any case, it’s worth mentioning again, for its food for thought.
… the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that Sheeran’s hit did not infringe the copyright of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On,” citing that the songs share only the “fundamental musical building blocks,”
per Billboard
Nothing says it better than Ed himself, in this video clip from an interview with Howard Stern. So, congrats on winning your case, but so sorry that it took eight long years to come to a conclusion. I understand why you would have quit music if you had lost and I’m certain I would feel the same way. It would have taken all the joy out of songwriting, and you’d live in constant fear of it happening all over again. The whole thing was absurd from the start.
