Stepping down…a tough decision
Monday night I did something very difficult; I informed my board that after next year, I would be stepping down from my position as chairperson. I will stay on in some capacity, but I can’t continue as is.
It wasn’t an easy choice, and I wrestled with it for months. I’ve gone through a rollercoaster of emotions, including guilt, dread, sadness, relief, and remorse. However, as I sip on my coffee this morning, I know I did the right thing, even though a tiny doubt still lingers in my soul. Decisions are seldom black or white, and this was no different. It came down to weighing the pros and cons on balance scale.
I have so much going on in my life. I needed to re-prioritize my goals and focus my ambitions. I want to spend more time writing books. I want to play my guitar and bass once more. I want to focus on my photography. I need to spend more time with beloved friends and family. I desire more ME time. The list is long, but the bottom line is, I long for less stress.
Last night I slept straight through the night. It was such a great feeling. Just knowing the decision’s in motion has already lifted a great weight from my shoulders.
Now I’m going to practice my Tai-Chi…
“The great benefit of slowing down is reclaiming the time and tranquility to make meaningful connections—with people, with culture, with work, with nature, with our own bodies and minds.” – Carl Honoré
