Time to clean the dishwasher
Our ten-year-old GE Profile dishwasher has always functioned well enough, though at times we are a bit disappointed by its performance. Upon unloading the appliance, we find a bit of dried on food (cereal bowls seem to be the biggest culprits). So, this morning I decided to see if I could solve the problem, and after watching a couple of online videos, I decided to take the plunge.
I proceeded to take it apart, removing the lower spray assembly, connector pump assembly, nut hub for fine filter, and the fine filter assembly (btw, it was easy!). Many of the parts were coated due to hard water (yes, we have a house-wide water filter and salt system, but have run out at times), so a good scrubbing with a toothbrush and some Better Life All Purpose Cleaner, did the trick. Then I re-assembled the parts, placed a cup of white vinegar on the top rack, and ran it through a normal cycle. When completed, I removed the cup, then sprinkled one cup of baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher and ran a short cycle. Viola!
Well it looks and smells clean, but the real test will transpire later in the week, when it’s time to run to run a load of dirty dishes. So… stay tuned for the results.

Update 1-24-2019
Worked like a charm, so I also switched dish detergents (was almost out anyway and wasn’t fond of the one I had). Now using Puracy Natural Dishwasher Detergent Packs from Amazon. Together it’s like having a new dishwasher.
While working on it, discovered that the dishwasher tub seal was going, so ordered a new one. Think I will tackle that this weekend. Easy enough, but a few more steps involved. Nothing this girl can’t handle. Onward and upward!
Jan 25, 2019 – Another job tackled. This one was a little trickier, but got ‘er done. THE toughest part was inserting the new seal. You have to make sure to jimmy a big enought piece of wood under the plastic inner frame. If you watch the video, you will understand what I mean. But hell, sure beats paying a repair guy.

Jan 28… Well, today was the big test. Ran the dishwasher and no leaks. I did it!
