What I love about Qigong
After doing the above routine last night, I knew I had to tell you more about Jeffrey Chand and Qigong.
I’ve tried various workouts throughout my life; however, when I began doing yoga, and then discovered Tai Chi and Qigong I found a well-rounded routine that includes, mind, body, and spirit. Seems too many of us strictly focus on the body but leave out mental well-being. I feel this is a huge oversight, and for that, we can thank the Western medical mindset which ignored the benefits and often ridiculed thousands of years of Eastern practices. To that end, a stigma was placed on mental health, and the subject was often relegated to the closet. Such a shame.
Thanks to YouTube, I was able to practice under various instructors, but it wasn’t until I stumbled upon Jeffrey Chand, that I found the perfect blend. What do I love about him? He’s charismatic – he’s welcoming. He’s informative, friendly, and knowledgeable. He encourages me to do more and be more. It’s never a chore to work out. He also takes into account that his viewers may have various levels of mobility; therefore, his instructions are geared to all. Want to add complexity or scale it down? No problem.
Qigong, pronounced “chee gung” is an ancient Chinese moving meditation exercise, that looks similar to Tai Chi, but is easier to learn and practice. Qigong involves proper:
- body movement
- breathing
- mental focus and intention
It is gentle on the physical body and can be practiced by anyone. While it has spiritual applications, Qigong is not a religious practice – so it is inclusive of all people and backgrounds.
I subscribe to his YouTube channel (it’s free) which currently includes over 150 videos, so it’s easy to find the daily perfect routine no matter your needs, morning, afternoon or evening. He has an extensive website, Qigong for Vitality and if you desire, can become a member for a monthly fee.
Other positive aspects? You don’t need expensive equipment, and you can practice anywhere – indoors, on your deck, in the park, on vacation, by yourself, or with a community of like-minded individuals. It’s great for beginners or experts and there are various styles such as Martial Art, Spiritual, and Medical and different types of practice that include dynamic, static, and mediation movements. Read more regarding the specifics, here.
I’m pleased to say that I turned many friends onto it and in return have heard a lot of positive feedback. Fantastic.
Many times, it’s challenging to find that state of peacefulness, when we are constantly being bombarded by our surroundings. However, Jeffrey compares it to a radio station. we can always “tune into” a state of peacefulness.
Who is Jeffrey? This is what he has to say about himself.
I’m Jeffrey Chand, an acupuncturist, practitioner of Traditional Chinese medicine, and Qigong instructor. I am incredibly passionate about sharing simple Qigong practices because I have directly witnessed how helpful it can be for a variety of health issues, prevention, emotional/mental health, and even spiritual health. The style that I try to present is simple but effective, because it is based on several Qigong traditions, clinical experience, physical therapy, traditional and modern medicine, and from working with many people from a variety of backgrounds. This style can be practiced if you are an absolute beginner and if you already have experience in Qigong or Tai Chi. If you are curious, give Qigong practice a try and I am sure you will notice benefit to your health and wellness 🙂 To get the full benefit of Qigong practice I would highly recommend practicing full routines which can be found in the “Communi Qi.”
This seems very relaxing! The outside sounds amazing and peaceful.
It’s great for people with high stress levels.
