Indigo, I Purple You!
I always start off with a bit of healthy skepticism. Will it meet my expectations? Will it live up to Mono, which I truly adore? I need songs that personally speak to my core in depth. Will they carry me to new heights? I don’t like/love songs because I’m supposed to, and that goes for any artist, including BTS and/or their solo ventures or collabs. I freely admit that if you listen to my BTS playlist, I intentionally left holes in the discography.
I watched Wildflower first (the featured MV) before listening to the entire album, and it left me mesmerized as I lay in the dark at 2:30 am. When the chorus infiltrated my ears, Youjeen’s vocals were perfection and the song transcended to a new level. I watched it again and again. It was off to a great start. What did the rest of the album have in store for me?
Indigo is divine and has a jazzy, bluesy feel. The lyricism and the music behind it are sublime and as always, his choice of featured singers and musicians are of the highest caliber. He has an ear for this.
While I’m in love with the entire offering, I already have my faves – ones that resonate a chord deep within my soul. But Namjoonie, you blew any of my doubts or expectations out the window. You once again proved that your talent is no fluke, and that Mono was only the first of many greats yet to come.
