Installing Affinity Suite on Linux

I will write more about my complete experience going from Win 11 to Linux within the next few days. However, I had to share this right away.

By switching to Linux (my final flavor – Ubuntu 26.04), I’m now using open-source software. Yes, the free stuff. I’m no longer tied to outrageous subscriptions, such as Microsoft 365. Yet, there was one Windows-based program I couldn’t live without – Affinity Suite. It provided me with everything I needed to create not only my books, but those of my clients. It is an indispensable asset in my arsenal. The best software I’ve ever used. But, and there’s always a caveat – a Linux version doesn’t exist at the moment. So, what to do?

Of course, the Linux “family” of coders has many workarounds, so I searched YouTube for the right answer. Was it easy? I will be honest – NO! But after much trial and error, disgruntlement, and near tears, I finally found a quick and easy method. A mere five-minute process that worked the first time.

So many of the previous solutions were often difficult and time-consuming. It made me want to give up. But those of you who know me know that that’s not my style.

I’m here to profusely thank TheKapyByte for a set of easy-to-follow instructions, including access to the revised version of Affinity-3.0.2-x86_64.AppImage, found on Ryzendew’s Linux-Affinity page. Of course, I applaud Ryzendew for his meticulous work, which enabled me to run my favorite publishing software on Linux.

Now we wait for Canva to create a dedicated Linux version. I hope they won’t disappoint.
