“The First Take” – We’ve been taken!

Recently, I was introduced to a YouTube channel entitled, The First Take. Wonderful. You get to hear artists performing live in a studio and see and hear their “first and only take”. I’ve watched some inspiring segments. But wait, you tell me there’s a catch?

After watching an episode of Wings of Pegasus (I’m a longtime fan of Fil) I discovered the show isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It appears we’ve all been duped. Yes, toss out a few carefully chosen words to describe your channel, count on your audience being naive, and voila, you’ve got a hit show. After all, how could 10.2M subscribers be wrong? Right?

While they may be “performing” live, it doesn’t necessarily mean the music we’re hearing hasn’t been altered. Analysis video shows that pitch correction software has been used and, in some cases, a backing track has been used. Just watch Fil’s show to see for yourself and be prepared to be discouraged.

Was I surprised to discover this? Hardly, but I am disheartened. No faking.
