The Good Farmer Removes the Weeds…
I’ve always been one to look at the glass half full, and that hasn’t changed. Years ago, my step-father told me, “Chi-chi, the good farmer removes the weeds from his garden!” Yes, he loved growing vegetables and had an extensive plot in our yard, but he wasn’t just referring to the greens outside my window.
I took that adage to heart and have tried to live by his words, though it always hasn’t been easy (what is in life?) So what does it mean? Simply that you strive to weed out the negativity, be it people with horrible attitudes, news media, local gossip, and other things in our daily lives that bring us unnecessary strife.
Every now and then I have to re-visit my list and set out to pull the weeds once again. Within the last few months, I went through facebook friends and acquaintances and either hit “unfriend” or “unfollow” and it was such a catharsis. I also forced myself to be a little more organized – scanning docs to my computer, following through with contacts, and not letting the checkbook go for months without reconciling it. You don’t appreciate nor realize how much stress is involved until you no longer have it sitting on your shoulders.
So what brought this to realization this afternoon? Simply the fact I confirmed during the week; friends who fill their days with news shows and nothing more, are filled with gloom and doom and can barely speak of anything else. It’s sad and taking its toll on them even though they may not realize it. Plus, it takes its toll on me. Sad but true. However, there is a solution; try to surround yourself with positive people who uplift you. Trust me, it works!
