Less than 24 hours later…
To be honest, I don’t even know
where to begin, because less than 24 hours after I wrote, “Why Can’t
We All Just Get Along?”, ARMY rushed into battle yet again. The culprit
this time? Comedian James Cordon, who shared a clip from his show about BTS’s
appearance at the UN. I saw it and laughed because I thought it truly funny!
However, many in the fanbase disagreed with me and hounded him, forcing Mr. Corden to remove the clip from Twitter. And worse yet, they blocked
him, and encouraged other ARMY to not only do so, but to never watch his show
again. Pretty harsh tactics. Let’s just say that I hope none of you are ever
my judge or jury in a real trial. GUILTY without deliberation.
When I read some of their
complaints, I couldn’t believe what I saw.
“I thought you loved BTS?
How could you?”
“James, I thought you were
one of us? I will never watch you again!”
“How dare you make fun of ARMY!”
“You could have told
everyone what a wonderful job they did today. Instead, you choose to make them
the butt of your jokes.”
“Why didn’t you tell the
world about the speech they gave at the UN?”
“You’re a traitor!”
“We worked so hard to let
the world know we are more than a bunch of teenage girls, and now you’ve set us
back…”
“I thought you were their
friend!”
The funniest and saddest comment added later was, “At least he could have said it was a joke!”
Seriously? He does a comedy routine. What about that needs further explanation?
And these were just the tip of
the iceberg. I couldn’t even bear to read anymore. It was ludicrous, because if
you knew how much James Corden and BTS love each other, the above and
subsequent commentary would break your heart. Visit past shows featuring BTS,
and you will see nothing but true friendship between them. The shows are filled
with warmth, joy, laughter, hugs, a genuine respect by all.
So how does one get to be on
ARMY’s ever-growing blacklist? It’s quite easy. Just revisit my blog from May
15th of this year.
If
Your Parents Could See You Now
That was a nightmare I do not
wish to repeat. But now I can welcome James Corden to the never-ending catalog
of victims of ARMY. Hey James, I know how you feel, buddy. You are not alone.
Sadly, and even more devastating
to me, was the fact that a substantial number of my “close friends” were part
of this new fiasco. When I woke this morning and read their comments, I couldn’t
believe these were the same people who supported me yesterday and loved and
shared my blog. Can anyone please explain this to me because I am stymied?
What happened to discretionary thinking? What happened to a sense of humor? Weren’t we just discussing oversensitivity?
Have you learned nothing?
This morning I’m uncomfortable
calling myself ARMY. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not ashamed to love BTS, but I don’t
want to be part of a fandom who continues to display the tactics of the Salem Witch
Hunts and the Spanish Inquisition. Maybe I will have to come up with a new name
for myself and the few remaining friends who still see the world with our
eyes.
