Upgrading my Canon EOS RP lenses

Upgrading my Canon EOS RP lenses

If you read my post, Mirrorless vs DSLR, dated January 30, 2025, you’re aware that I traded my Canon EOS Rebel T6i for a mirrorless Canon EOS RP. I’m very happy with my purchase. However, this month, I started looking through my lenses and decided it was time to do some trading.

I’m doing my purchasing through MPB and have been very pleased with the service and the ease of getting instant quotes from the company.

The first thing I did was sell my T6i body. I received a fair price, and the money was directly deposited into my account. Then last night I did the following trade.

Selling:
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II
Buying:
Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM

The reason I’m selling the 18-55 and the 55-250 is because they’re the ones that came with the kit, when we initially switched from a SLR to DSLR. So, ya, bottom line Canon lenses. While they were decent (and I captured some great images), I wanted better quality lenses, even with a limited budget.

I kept the two lenses that we purchased separately after our buying the kit. So, with the existing and the new ones, I feel I will have a good mm spread.

Another consideration? Today after looking through my various filters, I decided to sell my existing collection. Why? Due to the various circumferences of each lens, it will be more economical to upgrade my Ykeasu ring adapter EF-EOS R to the one that includes drop-in filters (they sit next the camera body behind the lens, instead at the front of the lens). This way regardless of which lens I’m using, I can use the same filters. Time saver. Money saver. Storage saver. For me, that’s a win-win.

Now we wait. I’ll be eager to share my thoughts with you.
