Life Goes On
I’ve tried various workouts throughout my life; however, when I began doing yoga, and then discovered Tai Chi and Qigong I found a well-rounded routine that includes, mind, body, and spirit. Seems too many of us strictly focus on the body but leave out mental well-being. I feel this is a huge oversight, and for that, we can thank the Western medical mindset which ignored the benefits and often ridiculed thousands of years of Eastern practices. To that end, a stigma was placed on mental health, and the subject was often relegated to the closet. Such a shame.
Hmmm, how do I begin? Just a few minutes ago I was lying in bed, and when I closed my eyes, I saw a video of a woman interacting with a green parrot. It lasted several seconds, then appeared to replay. It’s not the first time it’s happened.
For the vast majority of my life, I was part of a culture that vigorously attempted to throw off the shackles of nomenclature. We wanted to be defined as human beings, who stressed their commonalities, instead of pointing to our differences. But it seems the tables have turned. Watch the news or a talk show, read the newspaper, or scroll through your favorite social media page, and you’ll see what I mean. We are no longer human beings but are strictly defined by a particular sub-group.
When did we become so segregated?
I married a man with a good head on his shoulders, especially when it came to finances. I had already been down the OTHER ROAD in a previous marriage, due to a husband who spent money without regard. He lived for today. Savings? What’s that? If we had money in the checking account, well… his irresponsible spending habits were the prime reason for the divorce. So yes, I’ve been on both sides of the fence.
I’d like to introduce you to Silent Beauties, a friend I met on a *Mastodon. I enjoy our exchanges and therefore I’m pleased to share her blog, dedicated to her love of silent film. Glad me met!
